Camera is not working

For video calls and meetings

Read the complete step before making changes. Stop if unsure or if new warnings appear.

  1. Open an existing camera slider on the laptop. For a USB camera, check the connector and try another direct USB port. Some laptops also have a camera button with a camera symbol.

  2. Windows 11: Settings → Privacy and security → Camera. Windows 10: Settings → Privacy → Camera. Activate camera access and access for the desired app or desktop apps. For managed devices, only IT can change this setting.

  3. Open the audio/video settings of your conferencing app and select the correct camera. For meetings in the browser, the website must also be allowed to use the camera. Only grant this permission to trusted sites.

  4. Close other video programs. Test the Windows Camera app from the Start menu. If it works there, the problem is more likely to be with the conference app. Otherwise, save your work, restart Windows and check drivers with the device manufacturer.
