Microphone cannot be heard – Mute microphone in calls

Muting, incorrect input device or missing app permissions are often responsible.

Stop if unsure or if a new warning appears. Save your work before changes and ask IT before changing a work device. Never disclose passwords or recovery keys.

Check the mute button on the headset and in the conferencing app.
Open Settings → System → Sound → Input. Choose the right microphone and monitor the level while speaking.
Check app access under Privacy (Windows 11: Privacy and Security) → Microphone. Additionally, select the same input device in the conference app.

Test after each step and stop when the issue is solved. Checkmarks are not permanently saved.
