Check Wi-Fi step by step

Separate connection faults from coverage problems

Read the complete step before making changes. Stop if unsure or if new warnings appear.

  1. Wi-Fi is the wireless connection to your router. If wired devices are offline too, first check the router or provider. If only one device fails, begin with that device’s Wi-Fi settings.

  2. Test beside the router and then in the usual location, using the same device for both tests.

  3. Place the router in an open, raised position, not behind a TV, inside a metal cabinet or next to a microwave.

  4. Pause your own large downloads and test again. 2.4 GHz often reaches farther; 5 GHz is often faster nearby. Not every device supports every band.

  5. If only a distant room has poor coverage, consider a compatible mesh node or access point. Put a repeater where the router signal is still good, not in the dead zone.
