Screen black / flickering

Display or graphics issues

Read the complete step before making changes. Stop if unsure or if new warnings appear.

  1. Check the connection between PC and monitor at both ends. Select the appropriate input on the monitor, such as HDMI 1. Do not use damaged cables; Never insert the plug with force.

  2. Just turn the monitor off and on again. Check its power supply and operating light. On a laptop, also test the brightness buttons. Don't turn off your PC hard unless you have to.

  3. If you have an image: Check Windows Update or download the graphics driver from the official manufacturer website for your model. Save your work beforehand; The image may briefly turn black during installation. If the image is permanently missing, first test the cable and replacement monitor.

  4. Windows 11: Settings → System → Screen → Advanced display. Windows 10: System → Display → Advanced display settings. Choose only one refresh rate offered by the monitor. If the image becomes unreadable after a change, wait for the automatic return and do not confirm blindly.

  5. If available, use another suitable cable or another output from the same graphics card. The connection on the mainboard does not provide an image on every PC. If possible, switch off the device and monitor before reconnecting.

  6. Connect a suitable monitor or television via HDMI. Select the HDMI input there. On the laptop, press Windows + P and select “Duplicate” when the menu is visible. If only the external screen works, a workshop should check the laptop display.
