Speakers are not working

Read the complete step before making changes. Stop if unsure or if new warnings appear.

  1. Click on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the clock. If it's hidden, go to Settings β†’ System β†’ Sound.

  2. Slowly move the volume control up and unmute. Also check the control on the speaker and in the respective program. Start quietly, especially with headphones.

  3. Open Settings β†’ System β†’ Sound β†’ Output. Choose your speakers or headphones, not accidentally the HDMI monitor. Play a known audio file to test.

  4. Check whether the speakers have power and the plug is in the correct connection. Bluetooth headphones must be charged and connected. As a test, disconnect them from your phone if they connect there automatically.

  5. Windows 11: Settings β†’ System β†’ Troubleshoot β†’ Other troubleshooters β†’ Audio. Windows 10: Update and Security β†’ Troubleshoot β†’ Additional troubleshooters β†’ Audio playback. Follow the assistant.

  6. First check Windows Update and any optional driver updates available there for your audio device. Alternatively, use the PC manufacturer's official support page for your exact model. Do not install third-party driver updaters.
