PC is slow

Everything takes forever

Read the complete step before making changes. Stop if unsure or if new warnings appear.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc at the same time. If only a small window appears, click “More Details.” Open the Processes section.

  2. In Task Manager, click the CPU, Memory, or Disk columns to display high values at the top. Observe for a few minutes. Only close programs that you know, if possible via their own menu. Do not terminate unknown Windows processes.

  3. Press Windows + E → This PC. Read the free memory under C:. If the drive is almost full, use the “Insufficient storage space” instructions; Do not delete Windows folders by hand.

  4. In the task manager, open “Autostart apps” (Windows 10: “Autostart”). Right-click on an unnecessary, known program → Deactivate. This doesn't uninstall anything. Leave virus protection, backup programs and unknown entries unchanged.

  5. Save your work. Choose Start → Power → Restart. After logging in, wait a moment before assessing the speed again.

  6. Press Windows + I → Windows Update (Windows 10: Update and Security → Windows Update). Check for updates. Your PC may be temporarily slower during downloads and installation. Then restart when prompted.

  7. Place the laptop on a firm, flat surface instead of on a bed or sofa. Keep ventilation openings clear. Turn it off before cleaning externally. Do not open the device as a beginner. If you smell burning, are overheating severely or the battery is swollen: stop using it and get specialist help.
